The club is moving the November 6 lunch meeting, featuring guest speaker Michael Kearney of EUTR enforcement body the National Measurement Office (NMO), from its normal City venue at the Honourable Artillery Company to the West End – the Victory Services Club in Seymour Street.

“The subject is of great interest to the hardwood trade,” said LHC spokesperson Patrick Cooper, of Canada Wood UK.

He told TTJ that the NMO had concerns that some elements of the hardwood trade did not know how to approach due diligence properly.

NMO communications with companies, as well as visits, has revealed some evidence of the due diligence process not being properly followed through.

The EUTR came into force in March and effectively criminalises the import of illegal timber products.
