The company, which began in 1998, has concentrated on rough sawn and quality clear softwoods, and has built up a £7m a year business.
A hardwood department under new appointee Gary Oldfield opened last month at the company’s base near Wigan and is currently being stocked up. Director Peter Burns said he expected some sales before Christmas, but the aim was to hit the ground running in January.
“A lot of our customers are also doing high quality joinery work with hardwoods, so we have a good potential customer base, but in the past we have not had the expertise in hardwood,” he said.
“Gary’s background is in hardwood in the area and at the moment he is sourcing materials and seeing that we have the right product range.
“We have high hopes. We expect to do something in the order of £2m from a very low base.”
