Timber rail and beading specialist Haldane has completed a prestigious contract 30 storeys up the HQ2 building in London’s Canary Wharf development.

The company has supplied a 30-metre long handrail for a spiral staircase in the building, plus the associated 150mmx150mm newel posts. All the fittings have been made in American black walnut, with the rails and posts connected with ‘wreath’ components made on Haldane’s 5-axis CNC router.

The contract from architects Swanke Hayden Connel also entailed Haldane installing matching walnut veneer to the stringer section of the staircase and back infill panels to hide the fixings to the metal balustrading.

The company’s craft workers topped off the newel posts with hand carved caps.

The whole project was project manged by Haldane’s new buisness development manager Scott Kennedy.
