Scottish environment and rural development minister Ross Finnie relaunched Highland Birchwoods on its 10th anniversary at Littleburn, Ross-shire on August 22.
After planting a tree in a native species arboretum and launching the www.scotlandswoods.org.uk website, Mr Finnie visited Highland Birchwoods’ demonstration woodchip-fuelled heating system and an experimental woodchip-fuelled timber drying kiln.
Highland Birchwoods was launched in 1992 to promote the sustainable use of native Scottish woodlands and has been the driving force behind more than 20 projects involving more than 100 partners.
Chief executive David Caddick said Highland Birchwoods’ lean and responsive structure, range of expertise and extensive project management experience made it a key player in future rural development.
