Speaking ahead of the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) Sustainable Construction conference, Mr Yule, HIE director, called on designers, architects and other professionals involved in planning constructions to give greater consideration to the readily available supplies of timber in the area.

The conference, held yesterday in Inverness, saw 160 people from across the construction sector come together to discuss the industry’s potential to deliver environmentally considerate and sustainable constructions.

Keith Bryers, head of property at HIE, said that 15 speakers delivered speeches on a range of topics, including one showcasing the new Inverness Forest District office, which was constructed using locally-grown, certified timber.

Mr Bryers added that this fitted in well with the conference as “such a resource ties in with the local area”, with Mr Yule stating that the Highlands has a pre-existing surplus of timber.
