Structural insulated panels (SIPs) have provided the speedy solution needed to create a new two-storey building at the World of Golf driving range in New Malden, Greater London.

Palgrave Brown’s SIPs were used at the project, which provides space for a new golf shop, office and store.

The golf centre initially specified a brick and block solution, but contractor Brymor Contracting plumped for SIPs due to the “speed with which we could deliver”.

“The building was originally specified using block and brick but there was no way that could be achieved on time,” said Brymor site manager John Cleary.

“Instead, just six weeks after Palgrave Brown first came on site, the job is complete.”

Mr Cleary added that changes to the plans meant the building had to be reduced in size by 400mm, but the use of SIPs meant they were able to be recut on site.

Other timber solutions were also used extensively throughout the build, including PosiJoists in the floor, a glulam portal frame and a wooden staircase.
