Swedish forest products company Holmen AB has reported profits after tax of SKr245m for the first quarter, thanks to increased prices in its newsprint and paperboard businesses.

The group, whose Iggesund sawmill produces 340,000m³ of redwood sawn timber annually, said the profits were down from SKr271m a year ago.

Operating profits were SKr415m, compared with SKr446m, while sales totalled SKr4.5bn, down from SKr4.8m in 2008.

Holmen is investing SKr1.1bn building a whitewood sawmill in Norrköping with a 750,000m³ capacity.
