The first log for a customer order has been sawn at Holmen’s new large-scale whitewood sawmill at Braviken.
The milestone on January 12 was described by Holmen as an historic moment for the company, following an 18-month mill construction project.
“The new sawmill in Braviken will make Holmen Timber a total supplier of sawn timber, with construction timber from Braviken and pine joinery from Iggesund sawmill,” said Håkan Lindh, head of Holmen Timber.
Braviken’s production in 2011 is expected to be around 300,000m³, rising to 550,000m³ in 2013, though the facility has a design capacity of 750,000m³.
The sawmill employs 110 people and will serve customers in Scandinavia and Europe.
