The world’s biggest DIY chain Home Depot may soon turn its attention to the UK, joint founder Arthur Blank said during a visit to Scottish home-grown merchant and sawmiller John Gordon & Son Ltd.
Mr Blank, accompanied by former US senator Sam Nunn, arranged the recent visit to Nairn-based John Gordon as part of his holiday.
Chairman Ronald D Gordon told TTJ: ‘He said Home Depot was looking at their position now they were heavily represented on the American continent and did not think it would be too long before they were turning their attention to the UK.’
Mr Gordon said he is keeping an eye on the situation, with a view to supplying Home Depot should it move across the Atlantic.
However, Home Depot was remaining tight-lipped about its future plans. Spokesperson Tom Gray said the firm did not disclose plans and any talk of expansion to the UK was ‘pure speculation’.
He also pointed out that Mr Blank had retired earlier this year.
But the US company did invite Danish and Swedish firms to its Atlanta headquarters in April (TTJ March 31) to present their products.
