New home registrations increased by 6,000 in May-July, according to the latest NHBC figures.
The year-on-year increase was despite a decrease from 14,565 in June to 11,310 in July.
In May-July completions totalled 36,716 (2010: 30,771).
“We have seen growth in registration numbers,” said NHBC chief executive Imtiaz Farookhi.
“However, given the reduction in central government funding for social housing, we will need to see an upturn in private demand if the increase in volumes is to continue over the next few years.”
During May-July, private sector registrations were up 16% to 23,996, compared with a year ago (20,670). Public sector registrations increased by 26% to 12,720.
