Howarth Timber Group was crowned TTJ Timber Trader of the Year 2026 at the TTJ Awards on September 18.
The annual event recognising customer service and other achievements in the wood products industries saw about 320 people gather at the London Marriott Grosvenor House in Mayfair, with sports broadcaster Rob Notham as the host.
The event also featured a spotlight on the Timber Trades’ Benevolent Society with its president James Southern addressing guests, while a tribute was made to former James Latham chairman Peter Latham who died recently.
Headline sponsor MEDITE SMARTPLY shared a short film about the 50th anniversary of MEDITE in Europe and a new €75m investment at its Clonmel MDF facility in Ireland.
Howarth Timber and Building Supplies was the biggest winner on the day – winning Timber Merchant of the Year, Timber Garden Product Supplier of the Year and The Timber Merchanting Development Award as well. The achievements won Howarth Timber Group the Gold Award – the Timber Trader of the Year, sponsored by Timber Development UK.
“It was great to be together once again, lifting up this tremendous sector and putting the focus on the best and most sustainable construction material – wood,” said Stephen Powney, TTJ group editor.
“The wood industries are truly close-knit and unique, you could see at the TTJ Awards how special this industry is and what strength lies within the sector. It’s both ancient and modern, innovative and resilient. Despite what the current markets may be doing, it has been good once again to celebrate all that is good about the wood industries.”
Organisations supporting the TTJ Awards include TDUK, the Builders Merchants Federation, the Structural Timber Association, the British Woodworking Federation and Swedish Wood, with representatives from Confor, Grown in Britain, the Wood Protection Association and the BioComposites Centre at Bangor University were in attendance.
Host Rob Notham entertained guests with stories of television and radio broadcasting gaffes from across the decades. Guests congregated at The Barley Mow pub afterwards for the traditional Post Awards Drinks.
All the photos from the day and a video summary will be posted shortly on the TTJ Awards website and in the next printed edition of TTJ.
