Galiform, the owner of Howdens Joinery, said its pre-tax profits for the half-year ended June 12 increased by £16.9m to £21.6m (2009: £4.7m).
Howden’s depot revenue grew by 3.2% to £319.2m – up 2.5% from last year on a like-for-like basis.
Revenue increased by 6% year-on-year from March to June, after the end of the cold weather that disrupted the start of 2010.
Galiform chief executive Matthew Ingle said the results reflected the strength of Howdens’ business model and pointed the way to future growth.
“We have identified further opportunities to develop the business and intend to continue to invest in its growth,” he said.
Mr Ingle said he was cautious about the economic environment and the business would continue to be managed in light of economic conditions.
Sixteen new depots have opened so far in 2010, with the plan to open a total of 20-30. Howden now has 478 branches.
