The Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) has admitted 24 new professional members following its annual professional examinations.

New members range from local government representatives, harvesters and woodland conservationists to consultants and other forestry professionals.

ICF said applications for membership were higher than in previous years, as the economic climate highlighted the benefit of carrying a chartered title and being associated to a professional body.

“A new report estimates that the lifetime economic benefit associated with holding professional qualifications and membership of a professional institute is around £152,000 in today’s money terms,” said ICF president Richard Ogilvy.

Professional members’ commitment to continuing professional development “adds a reassurance that they remain qualified to do their job”, said Mr Ogilvy.
