Bespoke joinery company Impact Joinery is expecting to double output and move into mass production on the back of its move to a new 20,000ft² fac-tory near Orpington, Kent.

The Chelsfield site, which replaces a smaller unit at Bromley, will allow Impact to ramp up output to meet rising demand from its small-to-medium-sized customer base of builders. Impact offers bespoke joinery including doors, windows, stairs and conservatories.

The company will be able to produce for the mass market for the first time as a result of its six figure investment. It expects to have 30% of its turnover with mass market customers such as housebuilders and 70% with bespoke clients by the end of the year. Products targeted at the new housing market will include staircases, door frames and window boards.

The new capacity will reduce average lead times from their present level of eight weeks to around six weeks.

Impact managing director Jeremy Murphy said sales will rise from £1.1m to £1.8m by the end of the first year at the new site and that employment will rise from 16 to 25.

Impact’s investment follows a similar move by sister company, door and doorset manufacturer Soundcraft, which put £1m into a new 35,000ft² factory and office at East Peckham, Kent in October.
