Accoya modified wood has continued its growth in the UK market with International Timber becoming a major distributor.
The Manchester-based company has already placed a large order for Accoya, after customers had been “impressed” by the number of architect-led specifications for the material.
“There has been significant interest in Accoya since its arrival in the UK with many of our small joinery customers,” said International Timber product and marketing director Steve Rogers.
Accoya recently achieved British Board of Agrément Assessment approval and BSW Timber, sole supplier of Accoya in the UK, has undertaken a promotion of the brand to coincide with improved stock availability.
“This agreement marks an important milestone for Accoya, with smaller customers driving demand from further down the chain,” said BSW head of business development John Alexander.
He said it reflected the specification market’s demand for long-life, low maintenance and sustainable timber options.
International Timber joins Arnold Laver and Vincent Timber as Accoya distributors of cladding and joinery components, while six joinery manufacturers are listed on www.bswaccoya.co.uk as manufacturing doors, windows and other products.
BSW added that “market development and entry programmes are under way with further high quality joinery companies” and larger volumes of Accoya will be produced in 2008 to improve availability in the UK.
Accoya, made in Holland by Titan Wood, is produced by taking softwood through an acetylation process designed to make it more durable and stable.
