The Interzum furniture components and interior products exhibition this year will feature a new ‘intelligent material and design’ award.

The new competition is being run in association with the prestigious North Rhine-Westphalia Design Centre and the show organiser KölnMesse. It is open to all exhibitors and intended to ‘highlight innovation and the high degree of design orientation’ in the furniture and interior products supply sector. Entries are expected from the panels, wood floor and decorative surfaces sectors.

The award jury, including Swiss, German and Italian judges, will assess entries’ ‘degree of innovation, functionality and ergonomic aspects’. The winners will be included in the bi-lingual Interzum Design Year Book.

Interzum, from May 18-22 in Cologne, will also include the ‘Ethics and aesthetics’ conference, which will highlight latest interior products developments to architects, and the Material ColleXion 2001 which will feature 100 ‘innovative materials from the supply industry’.

This year’s show will have 1,700 exhibitors and is predicted to attract 60,000 visitors from 113 countries. Around 2,000 visitors and 60 exhibitors are expected from the UK.

As in 1999, it is being held in tandem with Decovision, the international upholstery fabric and leather show.

Entries for the design competition must be in by March 21. For entry forms call KölnMesse on + 49 221 8210.
