The Wood Marketing Federation (WMF) has launched its third annual awards for final year students using wood as the main element of their work.

Engineering, architecture and design students from universities and colleges across the Republic and Northern Ireland will be competing in three categories – architecture, wood science/engineering and design – with each winner and their parent institution sharing €4,000.

The awards were launched in 2006 as a means to promote the use of wood in design and architectural applications throughout students’ future careers.

“The entries for the 2007 awards have left a very high bar in terms of originality and creativity, a challenge for the students entering the 2008 competition,” said architect and judging panel chair Duncan Stewart.

“However, I’m sure we will see an even greater display of fantastic ideas in the coming edition.”

The All Ireland Student Awards will take place in two phases, with local finals hosted by each institution before finalists move on to the national competition.
