More than £30,000 of lacquered iroko cladding has been supplied by International Timber for 60 new apartments in Edinburgh.
The cladding was supplied to McCluskey Joinery which carried out the roof joinery and timber cladding works at the £5m development in Cramond.
Working in conjunction with coating specialist Sikkens, International Timber provided the timber pre-lacquered, which represented a saving for McCluskey and main contractor AMA in terms of cost and site time.
“Iroko was specified by the architect because it offered an excellent match to the surrounding properties and provided a dramatic contrast with the whitewashed walls,” said McCluskey joinery director Ian McCutcheon.
International Timber said iroko has been making inroads into the UK market since the 1970s as a substitute for teak.
The Cramond development is inspired by arts and crafts architecture and also features whitewashed walls and slate roofs.
