Timber pallets produced by a subsidiary of Japanese company Nippon Paper Industries are the first wood products to be certified by the “Sustainable Green Ecosystem Council” (SGEC).

The pallets, made of thinned wood from Nippon Paper’s 670ha Kitayama Forest in Shizuoka, are being made at the Hina pallet plant of Daishowa Kohrin Co Ltd. They will be used for transportation of paper products,

SGEC promotes a forest certification system for accrediting sustainable forest management and a separation and labeling system for controlling manufacturing and distribution management. Forest products which meet criteria in the two systems can be marked with the SGEC logo.
