Timber and sheet material specialist Nixon Knowles & Co Ltd has been bought by Jewson for an undisclosed sum.
The company, which was founded in 1868 and has four sites in Nottingham, Doncaster, Mansfield and Worksop, employs 150 people.
A spokesperson for Jewson said: ‘The plan is business as usual. The company, which is strong on hardwoods and laminates, will continue to trade under the Nixon Knowles banner.’
The firm’s location fitted Jewson’s strategy and brought it further timber expertise.
‘Its location between Sheffield and Nottinghamshire fills an area where Jewson did not have a particularly strong presence,’ he said.
