Environment minister Phil Woolas said there is a need for a combined effort to “seize opportunities and raise standards” for the use of sustainable timber in the UK.
Representatives from The Timber Trade Federation (TTF), including president Neil Donaldson, chief executive John White, vice-president Kevin Hayes and Peter Latham, immediate-past chaiman of Forests Forever, met Mr Woolas on February 20 to extol the environmental benefits of using wood and discuss a “workable timber procurement policy”.
“I look forward to The Federation‘s involvement in implementing the timber procurement policy which they were so supportive in developing,” said Mr Woolas.
“It is vital that we work closely together to seize opportunities to raise standards and push for greater use of sustainable timber in the UK.”
“We will continue to work closely with the minister to improve procurement and other policies to combat illegal logging,” added Mr White.
