A 600-year-old timber structure in Seoul, one of the country’s national treasures, has been destroyed in an arson attack.
Police have linked a 69-year-old man to the destruction of the The Namdaemun gate, Seoul’s oldest wooden structure which was built in the late 14th century.
The man is believed to have used a ladder to reach the second floor of the Namdaemun gate, where he ignited paint thinner sprayed on the floor.
The pagoda-style two-storey structure has been renovated several times in its long history.
