Finnish mechanical woodworking company Koskitukki Oy has announced plans to build a birch sawmill, and veneer and plywood plants in Vologda Oblast, Russia.
The €38m project will be implemented in two phases. Phase one will see the construction of a birch sawmill with 20,000m3 capacity. Phase two will be a birch veneer factory with an annual capacity of 5,100m3 and a birch plywood factory with an annual capacity of 30,000m3.
Family-owned Koskitukki Oy has established one company to oversee the construction project and another to deal with wood procurement.
The plants will consume around 170,000m3 of birch logs a year and provide employment for around 300 people.
