Modified timber manufacturer Kurawood plc has made a major breakthrough by securing a contract to supply national flooring retailer Floors-2-Go Ltd’s 135 UK stores.
Under the deal, the company will supply Floors-2-Go with flooring made from Vecowood, FSC-certified plantation-grown softwood modified to give it the properties of a hardwood. The flooring will be sold under the Kura brand.
Floors-2-Go will initially stock two colours – Moroccan Tan and Brazilia Dar, with a third colour choice being added to the range at the end of the summer.
Kurawood sales and marketing director Kevin Fraser said the contract was a “major breakthrough” for modified timber.
“Floors-2-Go is leading the way by offering consumers a product which uses a regenerating resource and natural processes to create an alternative to dwindling tropical hardwoods,” he said.
“Consumers are increasingly aware of environmental issues when they are buying products for their homes.”
Floors-2-Go senior buyer Carl Harris said there was great potential for the new product line.
“We are confident that this innovative new product will attract high levels of consumer interest and sales,” he said.
In September 2007 Kurawood, which is based in Southampton, floated on the Alternative Investment Market in a bid to raise around £5m. It has set its sights on supplying the UK building trade, timber trade and DIY market.
Vecowood, which is produced by impregnating radiata pine with a formulation made from vegetable oil, resin and other modifiers, was launched into the UK last year.
