Laminated wood floor-coverings continue to account for the major slice of the total wood floorcoverings market in the UK according to a report from AMA Research.
It estimates the total market – including solid wood, engineered hardwood and accessories – at £225m at manufacturers’ selling prices during 2000, £162m of which related to laminated flooring and accessories.
The laminated flooring market has grown by more than 800% since 1994 and, according to AMA, is forecast to be worth around £252m by 2004.
Glued systems represented 55% of the market in 2000, partly because of their prominence in DIY installations and also because they tend to be cheaper than glueless systems.
The report says laminated wood floorcoverings are growing in both the domestic and contract floorcovering sectors. DIY installation accounts for around 79% of the domestic sector, with new housebuilding taking the remaining 21%.
