Arnold Laver has become the first gold sponsor under the Wood for Gold campaign’s new funding scheme.
The scheme was launched as a result of a series of parliamentary lunches for timber firms, with gold, silver and bronze levels of backing available. Gold sponsorship requires a £20,000 donation, silver £10,000 and bronze £3,000.
“Wood for Gold’s campaign to ensure that legal and sustainable timber is used in the buildings of the London Olympic Games is an excellent initiative and we are delighted to support it,” said Lavers managing director Andrew Laver.
Campaign chairman Craig White added that Wood for Gold was also looking to develop its role as a one-stop shop for contractors and specifiers looking for information on the use of timber in the construction of the Games.
It has begun conversations with tier one contractors, offering information and advice on the role timber can play and “guiding them through the high standards of sustainability laid down by the Olympic Delivery Authority“, said Mr White.
“Our activity is ramping up in a serious way,” said Mr White. “We’re in a position to start delivering on wood’s role in the construction of the Games.
“We’re speaking to building designers and specifiers, with wood due to have a number of iconic uses including major roof structures on some large venues.”
Tamsin James, from Wood for Gold’s public relations firm Bellenden Public Affairs, added that the campaign was “engaging companies and contractors at a vital time as contracts are going out to tender”.
