A logging competition staged in Cumbria has helped to showcase modern forestry and demonstrate how the industry can work together.

The UK Logging Championships saw 20 timber experts from the UK descend on Fornside Farm near Keswick to compete in events testing their tree felling, cutting, limbing and ability to replace a chainsaw chain quickly.

According to the Forestry Commission, the event went “very well” and helped further Agenda for Growth, the Northwest Regional Forestry Framework to promote and support the sector.

“It showcased what can happen when partners within the forest industry work together,” said Forestry Commission woodland officer Peter Fox.

Devon-based Richard Elliott was named the overall winner in the competition, as well as being named in first place in the felling contest.
