Consultation on the London Assembly’s recommendations to improve fire safety during the construction phase of timber frame buildings will end on April 4.
The Assembly’s planning and housing committee has been consulting widely on its recommendations, which include asking the government to review Building Regulations in relation to timber frame buildings, use of sprinkler systems in timber frame buildings under construction, installation of cavity barriers and the banning of partial or full occupation of timber frame buildings until the whole development is complete and compliant with Building Regulations.
Comments received will be reported back to the committee at its meeting in June and all responses will be posted on the Assembly’s website www.london.gov.uk.
A government document published in February on the future of Buildings Regulations appeared to scotch any possibility that regs may be reviewed specifically for timber frame construction.
