Malaysia is set to launch a nationwide timber policy next week designed to boost production of value-added wood products.
The policy will be unveiled by the country’s deputy prime minister at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre on February 17.
It will contain initiatives encompassing greater use of hi-tech production machinery and innovation in a bid to secure and expand the timber industry’s presence on the export market.
The government’s target is to reach timber exports worth M$53bn by 2020, more than twice the current export level.
