Timber cable drum and plywood reel manufacturer Marlin Industries says it is successfully growing the business of its recently acquired Sandbach business.
Wrexham-based Marlin bought the site and assets of P&S Ashley in June and renamed it Cheshire Timber and Treatment Ltd, but said it has had to work hard to re-establish the operation whose sales had dwindled under the former ownership.
“People are getting to know the site is back up and running again,” said Marlin finance director Mike Webster. “We’ve done a lot work visiting customers.
Marlin acquired the site, which manufactures gates, fencing and garden products and has extensive timber treatment facilities, to allow it to develop further product lines.
The £1.1m Cheshire deal was arranged as part of a restructuring facility arranged through NatWest & RBS Invoice Finance.
Mr Webster said Cheshire Timber was an ideal fit in terms of its strategy for continued growth.
“While the product lines and markets may be different, there are in reality many synergies, which will enable us to develop further product lines,” he said.
Some 80% of Marlin’s activities relate to processing timber and plywood. It has a turnover of around £9m.
