The new headquarters building of Austrian sawmiller Mayr-Melnhof has won an architectural award.

The timber building in Leoben won the Holzbau Styrian prize in the public buildings category.

About 200m³ of Mayr-Melnhof’s own glulam and 700m³ of plywood board was used in the structure. The façade and windows are in spruce and beech.

“The size of the building is an expression of a new self-understanding in timber,” said the awards judges, who also felt timber materials had been intelligently combined.
