A full-scale MDF model is giving MSPs an idea of the layout of the Scottish Parliament’s planned £9m debating chamber.
Measuring 30m x 20m, the model uses around 600 8×4 MDF sheets and took Babcock BES seven weeks to build. MDF was chosen on the basis of cost and versatility.
The £24,000 model will give MSP’s an idea of sight lines and space in the chamber. It has already helped architects to adjust seating positions for the politicians.
Peter McCann, sales and marketing director for Babcock BES, said: ‘It’s the first time we’ve made a model on this sort of scale. Eventually we will make a desk model of the finished material which will be Scottish oak and sycamore.’
