Timber treatments manufacturer Osmose has reported more green recognition for its MicroPro technology.

The US-based company said MicroPro technology, using micronised copper preservatives, had just earned Green Approved Product certification from the National Association of Home Builders’ Research Centre under the National Green Building Standard programme.

The programme is an American National Standards Institute-approved consensus-based standard that defines the criteria for certifying a building as “green”.

MicroPro, the first treated wood process to be certified under the Scientific Certification Systems Environmentally Preferable Product programme based on life cycle assessment, was also recently voted the winner of the Green Product Award for 2009 by the US-based Building Products Magazine.

Andy Hodge, Osmose’s European marketing director, said the technology had been used to develop Micronised copper wood preservatives and Microshades pigmented timber colouring systems for the European market.

“Market research indicates that consumers perceive green homes to be better value,” said Mr Hodge.

A recent McGraw-Hill study indicated that green homeowners are more satisfied and believe that green homes are higher quality, easier to maintain, more efficient and offer health benefits.

Last year Osmose celebrated its 75th anniversary.
