Fork lift drivers from Timbmet and International Decorative Surfaces (IDS) took the top three places in the Midlands heat of Combilift‘s Driver of the Year competition.
Alan Cooper from Timbmet’s Shellingford branch won first place and just two points behind him in second place was Jon Howarth of IDS. Third was Keith Johnson, also from Timbmet’s Shellingford branch.
They all had to complete a driving challenge, which included negotiating a chicane, picking up and manoeuvring packs of timber in a tight aisle and placing a pallet within a designated boundary, and an inspection of a Combilift to prove their technical knowledge of the trucks.
Mr Cooper will take part in the final for the overall title of Driver of the Year at Combilift’s headquarters in Ireland in September.
