An unusual suspended ceiling in the Asia Room of the World Museum in Liverpool was supplied by MDF panel manufacturer Neat Concepts Ltd.

The ceiling was provided as part of a £35m investment at the museum which has doubled its size.

Originally the museum intended to use separate wood pieces to create a mosaic pattern for the ceiling of the Asia Room, but found it too costly.

Neat Concepts was approached to provide a cheaper alternative in MDF and selected Neatrout, which has perforated MDF panels, for the job.

Neat Concepts general manager Tim Green said: “The machinery we have can easily be adapted to any design, making it an attractive solution for projects such as this which require a specialist bespoke product.

“MDF proves extremely popular in larger scale projects where budgets can spiral out of control. As it is a very versatile material, it can be adapted for a variety of uses.”
