FR Shadbolt & Sons has had a new engineered timber door frame product successfully tested by Chiltern International Fire (CIF).

The FSC-certified Scots pine finger-jointed Shadwood product, lipped and veneered in hardwood, was engineered to cope with fire conditions simulated by the BS 476 Part 20-22 test standards.

CIF head of section Peter Barker said the results had shown that Shadwood was a suitable product to be used for door frames with Shadbolt’s ENcore door design for both 30 and 60min fire resistance.

Shadbolt factory manager Robin Tickner said the fire testing was an important factor for the product, which he said uses 49% less hardwood on standard FD60 frame sections and 85% less on standard FD30 frames, than comparable hardwood sections.
