A website has been launched to help UK exporters keep up to date with tough new regulations on wood packaging.
The free site, developed by Warrington-based pest control company Eleberts Pestforce, contains a country-by-country guide to the International Standard for Phytosanitary Meaures (ISPM) 15 rules, which require wood packaging to be fumigated or heat treated. It also gives the latest information on wood pests and diseases, such as sudden oak death.
The regulations have already been adopted by several companies, including the US and Canada, and will be introduced in the EU next March.
Eleberts Pestforce managing director Dave Elebert said: “The new regulations leave businesses with no option but to ensure their goods are properly fumigated before they are exported. If they aren’t, they run the risk of being sent back from the country they are intended for.”
