New Zealand’s forestry exports are now 24% – or NZ$55m a month – lower than a year ago.
Several companies have reduced their rate of harvesting in response to low prices. Latest figures show that compared with August last year the value of log exports fell by NZ$26m and the value of sawn timber by NZ$25m.
This was partly offset by a NZ$6,5m rise in the value of plywood exports and a NZ$1.7m rise in the value of particleboard exports.
