Nexfor is stepping up its campaign concerning the use of uncertified Brazilian elliottii pine plywood in struc-tural applications.
During May, the panel products manufacturer will send out a direct mailshot on the subject to 10,000 members of the Royal Institute of British Architects, to 9,000 roofing contractors and also to local authority officials.
According to Nexfor’s sales director Maurice Fitzgibbon, the mailshot will explain ‘without pulling any punches’ that elliottii is being used in flat roofing ‘without having any structural certification’.
Mr Fitzgibbon has also written to the DETR pointing out that companies such as his have invested heavily in achieving certification and yet elliottii was being used without having any. He confirmed this week that he had yet to receive a reply but would certainly be following the matter through.
