The latest negotiations between the US and Canada have failed to yield an agreement on a new export tax to replace American countervailing and anti-dumping duties on Canadian timber imports.
The US plan, which pivots around a 29% market share for Canadian imports, called for a tax ranging from 15% of the price of wood to 33%. The higher rate would apply if Canada maintains its large export volumes to America.
The US commerce department is working on the plan and believes talks may re-start this week.
Meanwhile, the long-awaited World Trade Organisation decision on the 18.79% countervailing duties will be delayed until May 27.
