The Nordic First promotion is confident its ‘vision’ of boosting UK per capita solid timber consumption by 50% can be achieved.
This upbeat statement came from Bo Borgström, chairman of the campaign organiser, the Nordic Timber Council, at its business to business presentation last week.
The event was attended by 60 representatives of the UK and Nordic timber sectors and took place at the BBC Good Homes Show, where Nordic First had a 90m² stand.
Mr Borgström said that Nordic First, together with the Wood. for Good campaign – which is also backed by the NTC – had set itself ‘a clear goal’ against which its success could be measured.
‘We aim to increase European per capita consumption of solid timber to 0.25m³ per year. Note! Britain today has an approximate consumption of 0.17m³,’ he said.
He added that the Nordic First campaign would work only with the support of the UK timber trade.
‘It is only with you that we can reach the consumers and building professionals.’
Karen Anne Bernie of Nordic First’s advertising agency Wyatt International said the campaign had got off to a good start, with nearly 3 million of its ‘inspirational’ and DIY leaflets distributed (TTJ May 5). These have been backed with magazine adverts, a helpline and the Good Homes stand, which the campaign’s ‘personality’ Charlie Dimmock visited on two of the show’s four days.
