North American structural panel production saw a year-on-year decline of 6.3% in the second quarter, despite improving on the previous two quarters according to APA – The Engineered Wood Association.

Figures from the North American organisation have also shown that year-to-date structural panel production has fallen by 8.7% to 20.2 billion ft2.

This was led by OSB, which saw a 9.2% decrease from 2006 to 12.5 billion ft2, and plywood, which saw a 7.9% decrease to 7.7 billion ft2.

The closure of two Canadian production facilities were cited as reasons for the decline in OSB output, while, according to the figures, sanded plywood was one of the few product sectors to report an increase in production at 850 million ft2.
