Positive market signals and the “spring factor” provided some rare industry cheer at the North East Timber Trade Association (NETTA) dinner in Hull last Friday.
Traders talked of timber “flying off the dock” and importers scrabbling around trying to source product, while Timber Trade Federation president Kevin Hayes reported that DIY retailers had experienced a bumper Easter.
“It’s great to be able to stand here and talk about something positive happening in our market at last,” said Mr Hayes.
He still predicted a long hard slog to get out of the recession but the spring factor had “helped tremendously”.
He also congratulated NETTA for managing to attract nearly 200 guests to the annual dinner in the current economic circumstances.
