North Yorkshire Timber’s (NYT) expansion programme and recruitment of former workers at closed conservatory manufacturer Admega have resulted in its featuring on the BBC Look North programme last night.

The Northallerton-based importer, merchant and engineered timber products manufacturer has taken on 18 workers from Amdega, which went into administration earlier this year with debts of £3.3m.

Amdega’s former manufacturing manager Andrew Watters has also recently joined as production manager at NYT’s Brompton-On-Swale manufacturing and distribution facility.

Chris Walker, North Yorkshire Timber’s marketing manager, said the new recruits were skilled timber fabricators who are working on various products including roof trusses and leisure buildings.

“There is a large demand for British-manufactured product and we are certainly part of that,” said Mr Walker.

NYT posted record sales of fabricated timber products in the financial year 2010-11. This year it has expanded roof truss production by 50% following installation of a new truss press from AV Birch Engineers Ltd.

Its other engineered wood products include I-joists (including roof and floor cassettes) and glulam beams, while the business also has a licence with Cumbria-based Newfoundland Lodges Ltd to manufacture timber camping “Pods”.

NYT has plans to implement further investments in the business within customer service and to improve efficiency at Brompton.
