AB Lewis Ltd, with the greatest regret, wishes to advise their many friends in the Timber Trade in the UK and overseas of the death of Brian Lewis, after a long battle, conducted bravely and with great dignity.
A founder of the company in 1976 with his brother Tony, Mr Lewis was a true gentleman who was highly regarded for his considerable knowledge and integrity – to him a “contract was always a contract”.
Mr Lewis was educated in north Wales at Rydal School, where his love for sports was developed. A keen cricketer, he was a fearsome fast bowler and a very useful left-handed batsman. He was an active member of the MCC and past president of both the Northern Cricket Club and, for many years, the Rydal Dolphins.
In the winter months he could be found between the goal posts at Liverpool Ramblers Association Football Club where he earned the appropriate nickname of “The Jolly Green Giant”.
As the years progress he gravitated to golf and was elected as captain of Formby Golf Club in 2005.
