Some 12,682 homes were registered by NHBC during the month, 9,666 in the private sector and 3,016 in the public sector.

The rolling August to October quarter saw a 24% growth (to 32,716) compared to a year ago. Richard Tamayo, NHBC commercial director, said the sustained increase in registrations was set to make this year record the largest number of new homes since 2007.

Private and public sector registrations were both up 24%. Registrations in the south-west and south-east regions both fell slightly.
