Nominations have opened for the annual Wood WORKS! Awards, which celebrate “organisations dedicated to pioneering and preserving the use of wood in Ontario”.

The competition includes 12 categories: Green Building Wood Design, Interior Wood Design, Residential Wood Design, Multi-Unit Wood Design, Commercial Wood Design, Institutional Wood Design under C$10m, Institutional Wood Design over C$10m, Northern Ontario Excellence, Jury’s Choice, Engineer Wood Advocate, Architect Wood Advocate and Wood Champion.

Last year, a 530ft² painter’s studio in Dundas, Canada, built from Douglas fir, spruce and eastern white pine, received the Residential Wood Design Award, while the 45,567ft² Young Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto was awarded the Commercial Wood Design Award for its use of rough-cut Douglas fir timber trusses to convert two existing brick tankhouses.

The nomination process for the 2008 awards is open until September 19. The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony on November 12.
