Manufacturers of outdoor leisure wear including Nike are urging the US government not to allow logging in roadless areas of national forests.
Nike and other companies including Adidas and Columbia Sport wrote a letter, organised by environmental groups, to agricultural undersecretary Mark Rey asking him to retain the roadless Area Conservation Rule, which prevents logging on 60m acres of undeveloped forest.
The letter, which follows a similar campaign by the Outdoor Industry Association, says modifications to the rule could hurt natural resources, peoples’ outdoor experience and ultimately the industry’s financial health.
