Pacific Rim Wood wins prestigious award from Indonesian government

26 February 2020

Pacific Rim Wood, UK sales agents timber products from Indonesia, have been presented with the Primaduta Award by the Indonesian Government in recognition of its commitment to continuously develop products from Indonesia.

“It’s extremely rare for a UK company to win a Primaduta award in any industry, let alone the timber industry, so we are particularly proud and honoured to receive this, especially when you consider the context.” said Shaun Hannan, sales director Pacific Rim Wood.

“Less than 20 years ago, Indonesia was targeted by Greenpeace for its poor forest management and since then, the government has turned the industry around with regards to the legality and efficiency of raw material supply and usage.

“Indonesia was the first country in the world to ship FLEGT licenced timber (Forest Law Enforcement Governance of Trade) to the UK in November 2016 which is amazing when you consider that at the start of the millennium it was under the environmental spotlight and is now making all shipments on at least a legal basis and in many cases legal and sustainable.”

The Primaduta Awards have seen 45 recipients from 31 countries in all industries recognised. An event took place at the London Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia where Mr Hannan collected Pacific Rim’s award.

Established in 1992, Pacific Rim have been developing and marketing timber products in Indonesia for almost 30 years.  Working in partnership with mills in Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi, they have created an impressive portfolio of premium quality, certified products for the UK specification market.
