Pakistan’s forests contributed 315,000m3 of timber during the fiscal year 2003-04, slightly down on the previous 12 months.
But the amount of firewood coming out of the country’s forests grew to 514,000m3, up from 499,000m3 in 2002-03.
Official statistics show that only 4.8% of the nation’s total land area is under forest, compared to a recommended level of 20-25%.
